Know what you actually keep.

When you're self-employed, your invoice is never your income. freelancetaxhelper shows your real take-home pay after tax and social-security contributions — accurately, country by country.

Your invoice isn't your income.

Employees see one number leave and one number land. The self-employed don't get that clarity. Between social-security contributions, income tax that climbs in bands, and the deductions you're allowed to claim, the gap between what you bill and what you keep is large — and genuinely hard to work out in your head.

That uncertainty is stressful at quote time, at tax time, and every time you try to plan. These calculators close it: one honest number, with every step shown.

How it works

Pick your country, enter a couple of numbers, and read your real net. No account, no spreadsheet.

01

Choose your country

Each country has its own tax and social-security rules, so each has its own dedicated calculator with the right logic built in.

02

Enter what you bill

Your income and deductible expenses. Everything updates live as you type — no submit button, no waiting.

03

See what you keep

Your take-home, monthly and yearly, with your effective rate and a full breakdown of where every part goes.

Built to be trusted with your money

Most free calculators are out of date, gated behind a sign-up, or vague about the math. These aren't.

Official figures

Brackets, rates and contributions come from each country's official tax and social-security sources — not guesswork.

Kept current

Tax rules change every year. Each calculator is dated and updated for the current year, so you're never reading stale numbers.

Nothing hidden

Every figure is broken down step by step, and we're explicit about what's included and what's an estimate.

Questions, answered

The basics, before you pick a country.

Why isn't my take-home just my invoice minus a flat percentage? +
Because income tax is usually progressive — different slices of your income are taxed at different rates — and social-security contributions and deductible expenses each follow their own rules. A single flat percentage can be off by thousands. The calculators apply the actual bands and rules instead.
Are these calculators free? +
Yes — free, with no sign-up and no account. The core calculators stay free. We may later earn affiliate commissions from tax software or accountants we recommend, always disclosed on the page, but that never changes the math.
How accurate are they? +
They use official rates and brackets and show every step, so for most straightforward situations they're a close estimate. They can't know your full personal circumstances, so for filing and edge cases you should confirm with a qualified professional in your country.
Which countries are covered? +
Spain is live now, in Spanish and English. Portugal and Italy are next. Each country gets its own calculator because the tax and social-security rules differ — there's no honest one-size-fits-all number.
Is this official or tax advice? +
Neither. freelancetaxhelper is an independent tool, not affiliated with any tax authority. It's built to help you plan and understand your numbers — not to replace advice from a gestor, accountant or asesor fiscal.
